Peptide Therapy Guide

Epitalon peptide in Dallas–Fort Worth: what the research shows, and what it doesn't.

Epitalon (also spelled epithalon) is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, modeled on epithalamin, an extract of the pineal gland. It's best known for lab studies on telomerase and telomeres and for animal studies on melatonin and sleep rhythm, but it has no large human trials and isn't approved by the FDA. At Regal, Epitalon is an optional add-on to a medically supervised weight loss program, prescribed only after a medical evaluation, never as an anti-aging promise.

What is Epitalon?

Epitalon is a short, lab-made peptide: just four amino acids, alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and glycine, written Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly or AEDG. You'll see it spelled Epitalon, Epithalon or Epitalone. They're the same molecule.

Its story starts with epithalamin, a peptide extract taken from the pineal gland of cattle and used as a medicine in Russia. Researchers at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, led by Vladimir Khavinson, designed Epitalon from epithalamin's amino-acid composition so they could study a single, defined compound instead of an extract. Later work reported finding the same AEDG sequence in the pineal gland's own peptide complex.

The pineal gland is the small gland in the brain that makes melatonin, the hormone that helps set your sleep-wake rhythm. That's why Epitalon research has focused on three themes: telomeres, melatonin and sleep rhythm, and markers of aging in animals. It's one of six peptides Regal can prescribe; see the peptide therapy overview for the full list and how they fit a program.

Does Epitalon lengthen telomeres?

Telomeres are protective caps on the ends of your chromosomes. They shorten a little each time a cell divides, and short telomeres are linked with cellular aging. Telomerase is the enzyme that can rebuild them. Most adult cells make very little of it.

Here's what the lab research actually shows:

2003: human fetal cells

Khavinson's group reported that adding Epitalon to telomerase-negative human fetal fibroblasts in a dish switched on the telomerase catalytic subunit, raised telomerase activity and lengthened telomeres.

2004: more cell divisions

A follow-up from the same group reported that treated cells kept dividing past the point where untreated cells stopped. Again, this was in cell culture.

2025: an independent lab

Researchers at Brunel University London found dose-dependent telomere lengthening in normal human cells through telomerase. In breast cancer cell lines, telomeres lengthened too, through a different pathway (ALT).

So the honest answer: in cells in a dish, yes, more than one lab has seen it. Whether an injection does the same thing in adult human tissue, and whether that would mean better health or a longer life, hasn't been shown. Longer telomeres in a lab test are a biomarker, not an outcome. And the 2025 finding in cancer cells is a reminder that telomere lengthening isn't automatically a good thing.

Epitalon, melatonin and sleep

Because Epitalon came from pineal gland research, a lot of studies look at melatonin. In rat pineal cells grown in culture, Epitalon increased the enzyme that makes melatonin and the melatonin level in the culture. In a study of rhesus monkeys, old animals (20–27 years) had lower night-time melatonin than young ones; after Epitalon, their night melatonin rose and their fasting glucose and insulin came down. Young monkeys showed no change.

The same research group has reported higher night melatonin in small groups of older adults given pineal peptide preparations. Those studies were small, older and not repeated by independent teams, so they can't tell you whether Epitalon will improve your sleep.

Practical point: if poor sleep is what's bothering you, start with the basics your provider can check: sleep apnea, medications, caffeine and alcohol timing, stress, and in midlife women, hormone changes (see women's hormone care). A peptide is not a substitute for that workup.

Is Epitalon an anti-aging peptide? The limits of the evidence

Epitalon is often sold online as an "anti-aging peptide." A 2025 review from the Medical University of Warsaw summarized 25 years of in vitro, animal and computer-modeling studies and described antioxidant, neuroprotective and melatonin-related effects, while noting that its mechanisms are still uncertain and that basic chemical and structural studies are limited.

Before you weigh any claim, keep these limits in mind:

  • Mostly cells and animals. The strongest data come from cell cultures, rodents and a small number of monkeys.
  • Mostly one group. Most published work comes from the Khavinson group and its collaborators in Russia. Independent replication is just starting.
  • No large human trials. We found no large randomized, placebo-controlled human trial showing Epitalon slows aging, extends life, improves sleep or causes weight loss.
  • Unknown long-term safety. There's no long-term human safety data of the kind FDA reviews for approved drugs.

That's why we use phrases like "studied for" and "early research suggests," and why Regal never presents Epitalon as a way to reverse or stop aging.

Epitalon side effects, and who shouldn't use it

Published Epitalon studies report few side effects, but they were small and short, so the honest answer is that its side-effect profile in people isn't well defined. What your provider will talk through:

Injection-site reactions

Redness, itching, tenderness or a small bump where an injectable product goes in, as with any injection.

Unknown long-term effects

No long-term human safety data exists. That uncertainty is part of the decision.

Sleep and hormone shifts

Because research centers on melatonin, tell your provider about sleep medicines, melatonin supplements or night-shift work.

Interactions

Interactions haven't been studied. Disclose every prescription, supplement and other peptide you use.

Who shouldn't use Epitalon

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding, or trying to conceive: there's no safety data.
  • Active cancer or a history of cancer: because Epitalon is studied for switching on telomerase, and a 2025 lab study saw telomere lengthening in breast cancer cells, discuss it carefully with your oncologist and your provider, or skip it.
  • Under 18, or anyone who can't commit to follow-up visits.
  • Competitive athletes: check your sport's anti-doping rules before using any non-approved substance.

Call your provider about any rash, swelling, trouble breathing, or symptoms that worry you, and stop until you've spoken with them.

Epitalon at Regal: how it fits a weight loss program

Let's be direct: Epitalon is not a weight loss medicine, and no human trial shows it causes weight loss. The monkey study's lower glucose and insulin is interesting, but it's an animal finding. At Regal, Epitalon is only ever an optional add-on for an adult already in a medically supervised program, when it makes sense after an evaluation and you understand the limits above.

  2. Medical evaluation.Eric Naifeh, FNP, PMHNP, DC reviews your history, medications and labs before anything is prescribed.
  3. Your core program first.A nutrition plan and weekly coaching, plus GLP-1 medication or other options when clinically appropriate. That's what drives weight loss.
  4. An add-on only if it fits.If you and your provider decide to try Epitalon, it's compounded by a licensed pharmacy on a patient-specific prescription, and your provider explains how you'll receive it.
  5. Weekly check-ins.Your consultant asks how you're doing every week, so anything unexpected gets flagged early.

If focus and mental clarity matter more to you than sleep rhythm, read about Semax, the other neuro-focused peptide we prescribe. For metabolism, MOTS-c is the one most often discussed. To see the core options, compare our programs.

Frequently asked questions

Is Epitalon approved by the FDA?

No. Epitalon is not approved by the FDA for any use. Since October 28, 2026, an HHS enforcement-discretion policy lets qualifying 503A pharmacies compound Epitalon acetate on a patient-specific prescription under set conditions. That is not approval: FDA hasn't reviewed it for safety or effectiveness, and HHS can change the policy at any time.

Is epithalon the same as Epitalon?

Yes. Epitalon, epithalon and epitalone are spellings of the same synthetic peptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG). It's different from epithalamin, the pineal gland extract it was modeled on. The 2026 HHS policy covers the acetate form, Epitalon acetate, made by a licensed compounding pharmacy.

What are the benefits of Epitalon?

Researchers have studied Epitalon for telomerase activity, telomere length, melatonin rhythm and age-related markers, mostly in cells and animals. Those findings are early. No large human trial has shown that Epitalon slows aging, improves sleep or helps with weight loss, so Regal makes no benefit promises and treats it as an optional add-on.

Can Epitalon help me sleep better?

It might affect melatonin: lab and animal studies, and small human studies from the same research group, reported higher night-time melatonin. That hasn't been confirmed in rigorous human trials. If sleep is your main concern, your provider will look at common causes such as sleep apnea, medications and hormone changes first.

Can I get Epitalon in Dallas–Fort Worth or by telehealth?

Yes, as part of a Regal program. Visit our Mesquite, Fort Worth or Grand Prairie office, or meet by video, phone or WhatsApp from anywhere in Texas. Epitalon is prescribed only after a medical evaluation, and your provider explains how you'll receive it. The consultation is free.

Can Epitalon be combined with other peptides in one shot?

Not under the 2026 policy. Each compounded product may contain only one active ingredient, so blends or "stacks" in a single vial are outside it. If your provider prescribes more than one peptide, each is a separate product, and Regal never offers peptide blends.
